Building a Survivor From a Barn Find Harley

Last time, I brought Joe's Harley back to life after it sat in a barn for 33 years. Now I'm taking this 1986 Harley-Davidson Sportster completely apart—not to erase its history, but to preserve it. With only the engine left in the frame, I clean and renew nearly every part of the motorcycle. The frame, engine, wheels, original tins, seat and chrome are preserved and refinished. The wiring is repaired, the clutch inspected, new tires mounted and balanced, new brake pads installed, the fluids changed, and decades of rust and corrosion carefully removed. The original paint and its history stay. Poppy's Patina wipe-on clear seals and protects the aged finish rather than hiding it. The goal isn't a restored motorcycle. I want Joe's Harley to look like it spent the last 33 years being cared for instead of sitting forgotten in a barn. And when the work is finished, I ride it back to that same barn and return it to John—who can now pass his brother's motorcycle on to his son, also named Joe.
