JoyNews Research has uncovered details of the revenue-sharing arrangement underpinning Ghana’s TraffiTech-GH automated traffic enforcement system, revealing that the government is entitled to 60% of revenue generated from traffic fines, while the private partner, Nationwide Traffic Management and Enforcement Limited (NTMEL), receives the remaining 40%. The arrangement forms part of an 11-year public-private partnership valued at GH¢77.73 million, running from December 2022 to December 2033. The system uses cameras and other digital technologies to detect traffic violations, with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) reviewing the evidence before electronic notices are issued to motorists. The findings raise questions about the management of the revenue, transparency in collections, and how the government's share will support road safety and infrastructure development. #NewsDesk
