The Healing Shore: Creating Quiet Abstract Art Inspired by Beach Stones

In this mindful abstract art session, we explore an intuitive mixed media sketchbook process using acrylics, a pencil, and a black China marker. This calming painting tutorial translates the textures, muted tones, and soothing colors of the shore onto the page, inspired by three simple beach stones collected over the years. As I paint, I find myself reflecting on a lifetime spent near the water—from childhood spring breaks in Florida and starry nights on Georgian Bay, to walking along Lake Ontario with my son when he was a toddler. We are also dealing with some unpredictable studio lighting today, as Toronto is wrapped in heavy smoke and haze from the northern Ontario forest fires.
