Chaotic Clearance and CDS meeting | A day in the life of a Corp member | NYSC Diaries.

This is what people don’t tell you about NYSC Orientation Camp, read to the end with me!!! Nigeria's Clarion called and I had to obey. When I finished my Internship, I was eager to get mobilized but one thing led to another and I couldn’t (due to the protest last year, etc). So I opt to serve Nigeria in my own way through volunteering, building a community, and working both physically and virtually. 2025 came and I mapped out a different plan because arhhgg my mobilization is taking years to come by, and because I was already engaged with activities, it didn’t dawn on me much. When I got my Call-up number, I decided that since the orientation course isn’t a big deal, let me just report to the camp and find my way to run cause I’ve heard so many people dodging the Camp. I went with just a backpack intending to turn back home the next day. Lo and behold, it didn’t work(I honestly attribute that to God’s doing) because I would have regretted it. The first few days were rough or confusing rather because where will I start? Buying clothes or necessary items to use? Or even accepting the reality that I won’t be with my Laptop for 21days. I had to calm myself with the reminder that, this is something I prayed for a few months ago, I should relax and experience every bit of it and that’s how I woke up the 3rd day ready to be a full patriotic Nigerian. I later found ways to get involved through different activities in my platoon and the entire Camp activities; -Joined the parade interplatoon Competition for my platoon and we came second. -Represented our platoon(two of us) for the interplatoon debate competition and we came first. -Appointed as my platoon Servicom Vanguard Officer. -Supported in coordinating social night activities. -Joined the reggae backstage singing competition and we came second. -Participated in Interplatoon Cultural/Drama Competition and we came first. -Represented(two of us) the “Education and Public Speaking” Skills exhibition for the SAED Program. -Joined in attendance the MCAN Musabaqa(Qur’an Competition) as a member. -Participated in the POP parade. Challenges? Hell yes, I got sick to the point that the Doctors got tired of seeing my face in the clinic, the lack of sleep is X1000, the strictness of the soldier(at some point, I felt like a soldier, double up double up),hours of lectures, the food isn’t giving home vibe, money spending x10000, there are nights I cried myself to sleep because 21days seems like 365days but Alhamdulillah, we see through it. All these experiences exposed me, stretched me, challenged me but they also revealed parts of me I hadn't tapped into. I believe in myself and my Capabilities because I met supportive friendships, Platoon officer, Platoon commander, roommates, Man O’war Instructor, and even Camp acquaintances. To every #prospectivecorpsmember or undergraduate reading this: ignore the noise. NYSC is what you make of it. Step in with the right mindset, and it will transform you.
