Arches National Park Arches National Park is a national park located in eastern Utah, adjacent to the Colorado River, 4 miles (6 km) north of Moab, Utah. The park is renowned for its more than 2,000 natural sandstone arches, which constitute the highest density of natural arches in the world. The park also features a variety of other unique geological formations such as balanced rocks, fins, and eroded monoliths. The park covers an area of 310.31 km² (76,680 acres; 119.81 sq mi; 31,031 ha) and lies above an underground evaporite layer or salt bed, which is the main cause of the formation of the arches, spires, balanced rocks, sandstone fins, and eroded monoliths in the area. The highest elevation in the park is 5,653 ft (1,723 m) at Elephant Butte, and the lowest elevation is 4,085 ft (1,245 m) at the visitor center. Between April 1, 2025, and October 31, 2025, Arches National Park requires a reservation to enter, except from July 7 to August 27, 2025, when no reservation is needed. This system provides reliable access to the park and results in a higher quality visitor experience. The park is internationally known for its namesake arches and stunning red rock scenery. Winter is the park's quietest season and a perfect time to see the fiery red arches with a soft dusting of white snow. There are no hotels inside Arches National Park.
