What happens to the original DNA during DNA replication? What does the Meselson-Stahl experiment tell us? And what do all of those little tubes mean? Let's see!
The Meselson-Stahl experiment shows us that DNA replication is semi-conservative - that when a molecule of DNA is copied, each strand is used as a template to create a new strand, resulting in two double-stranded daughter molecules. In this video, we'll walk through the importance of DNA density in this experiment, making predictions about what we'd expect to see in the tubes for different models of DNA replication, and comparing with what Meselson and Stahl actually observed.
