Today’s story was shared with me over a call from Germany by a woman named Aiza. She had been married under false pretenses—with malicious intent—and was divorced when that ulterior motive failed to materialize. Aiza’s father was a high-ranking, honest official in the Revenue Department. A marriage proposal arrived for Aiza from a man named Asif, who held a Master’s degree from the UK. Asif’s father, Rafaqat, was a multi-millionaire government contractor. When the proposal came, Aiza’s father wondered why such a wealthy family would want his daughter as their daughter-in-law; his wife, however, attributed it to their daughter’s good fortune. The marriage took place, and Aiza moved into her in-laws' expansive, multi-kanal estate. Initially, everything went well. Three months later, her father-in-law, Rafaqat, ordered her to get her father to sign a specific file and issue an official directive. Aiza went to her father’s home and made the request. Her father explained that the land in question was government property; her father-in-law wanted to swap his own barren land for this government land, anticipating that future development in the area would yield him a massive profit. In official terminology, this process is known as ishtimal (land consolidation/exchange)—an illegal act that he absolutely could not facilitate. Following this, Aiza was sent back to her father’s house, and a divorce was issued—revealing that the marriage had been entered into with malicious intent. Even after the divorce proceedings began, Asif continued to meet Aiza secretly at her mother’s house. By the time the final divorce was formalized, Aiza had become pregnant. Upon learning this, her in-laws—her father-in-law and mother-in-law—reacted with shock, asking, "How did our daughter-in-law become pregnant?" Aiza revealed that her husband had been visiting her, and they had continued to engage in marital relations. When Asif was questioned, he lied, claiming he had not met his wife; consequently, the blame fell upon Aiza. She gave birth to a daughter, and during this period, her father passed away—grieving deeply over the ruin of his daughter’s life. Following the birth of her daughter, Aiza obtained a divorce through the court. She learned the German language and, under the 'Au Pair' program, moved to Germany. Yet, she ensured that her father’s principles—which had guided her upbringing—remained intact. Today, she is happy; she is completing a three-year internship while living in Germany. Although she does not know what the future holds, she remains hopeful.
