From Schooling to Leadership, Livelihood and Wellbeing.

What would it take for African schools to raise leaders, not just graduates? This session, hosted by AL for Education as part of ALA's program division, brings together education leaders and innovators from across Africa, Nigeria, Senegal, South Sudan, Uganda, South Africa, Sierra Leone, Botswana, and beyond to explore how schools can move past exam prep toward building young people who lead change, earn dignified livelihoods, and thrive. The conversation spans three threads: leadership (rethinking rigid, colonial-era school models in favor of contextual, project-based learning, plus the overlooked role of teacher confidence), livelihood (challenging the university-or-bust script with a four-pathway model, backed by data from African Leadership University), and wellbeing (making safeguarding central to school culture and extending psychological safety to teachers and families, not just students). It closes on a bigger question: beyond individual schools doing great local work, the continent needs shared infrastructure to bring these ideas to the hundreds of millions of young Africans who need them. #AfricanEducation #Leadership
