The Cave of the Women - 120 Roman Messages to a Goddess Nobody Knew Existed

Beneath the Roman world, people left messages to a goddess whose name has almost disappeared from history. Hidden among the archaeological evidence are more than 120 inscriptions connected to a mysterious cult and a sacred place associated with women, worship, and a goddess modern history nearly forgot. In this episode of THE FORGOTTEN RECORD, we investigate the evidence behind the inscriptions, the people who left them, and what these Roman messages reveal about a religious world that survived largely outside the stories written by ancient authors. Who was this goddess? Why were so many messages left behind? And what can these inscriptions actually tell us about the people who worshipped her? This is an investigation into the evidence, the mystery, and the forgotten voices preserved in stone. THE FORGOTTEN RECORD investigates real places, strange discoveries, forgotten stories, lost expeditions, historical mysteries, hidden infrastructure, and the evidence left behind.
