The Supreme Court of India has issued notice to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi on a petition filed by Rahul Gandhi and other INDIA bloc leaders alleging irregularities and large-scale voter deletions during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The petition seeks safeguards against deleting voters without notice and a reasonable opportunity to be heard, along with the publication of booth-wise deletion lists and reasons for the deletions.
Separately, the Supreme Court issued notice to Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav and others over a petition challenging their march to the court. Chief Justice Surya Kant observed that nobody can browbeat the judiciary and said the conduct of one petitioner would be questioned at the next hearing. The court also agreed to examine a plea challenging the removal of Jantar Mantar from the list of designated protest sites. The notices do not constitute a final ruling on the allegations.
