Big Woods Trail - Forest Glen Preserve - Georgetown, Illinois

The Big Woods Trail is a rugged, out and back, unpaved trail that is roughly one mile long. There is a fair bit of elevation gain and the trail crosses a stream at one point. This could lead to wet feet after rain. There is a poorly marked junction just after crossing the stream, if you leave from the roadside parking lot. The trail appears to continue to the right and left. The correct path is to the left. Going to the right will lead to another stream crossing and the trail eventually peters out. Going to the left leads to the observation tower. This was a really nice trail, even if there are parts of it that are in dire need of maintenance. Specifically the stairs just before you get to the observation tower. I would definitely do this trail again.
