Meet Dorine | Molière’s Tartuffe | My Semester Final 🎭

On 18 August 2026, I had the opportunity to portray Dorine from Molière’s Tartuffe as part of my semester final performance in the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies. For four days, I was completely immersed in Dorine’s world. I wasn’t just preparing her lines—I was trying to understand her as a person: how she would speak, walk, react, think, and carry herself. I slightly changed my accent, worked on my walking style and physicality, studied her expressions and mannerisms, and even wore Dorine-coded outfits around my hostel. And yes, I literally stopped washing my hair for four days to maintain the look I had imagined for the character. 😭 The little details became a huge part of the process. Dorine, written by Molière in 17th-century France, is a witty, outspoken, and fearless maid who refuses to remain silent in the face of hypocrisy and authority. Despite her social position, she often becomes one of the strongest and most rational voices in the play. Portraying her gave me the opportunity to explore character psychology, historical context, voice, accent, movement, physicality, costume, and stage presence—and, most importantly, to experience what it means to gradually build a character and then let that character take over on stage. After four days of living with Dorine, I finally brought her to the stage on 18 August.
