Driving from Hermanus to the airport with some comments on safety. A scene every minute of the way.

The N2 highway east of the airport has a bad reputation for safety. This video shows what the N2 actually looks like on a good day (most days are good days by far). To avoid the bad parts N2 as far as possible, one can use the R44 (Clarence Drive) and then go via Stellenbosch and use the N1 into the city. A small piece of the N2 to the west of the airport is still required, but this piece is much better patrolled and is much more frequented by tourists. The long way around would be to get on the R44 as soon as possible and follow it to Stellenbosch (Via Pringle Bay, etc). Still ignore your GPS. Then take the R304 to the N1. Turn left towards the city and only exit the N1 at exit 7A for Muizenberg, then follow GPS after that. Remember, the video is not showing the long route.
