The Philosophy of Living – Part 2 | Vocabulary Through PYQs
In this lesson, we continue our “The Philosophy of Living” vocabulary series with a new set of important words connected to wealth, abundance, scarcity, money and resources.
Instead of simply memorising meanings, we learn these words through previous-year questions (PYQs) and understand their synonyms, antonyms, contextual meanings and relationships.
📚 Words & expressions covered:
🔹 Munificent – extremely generous
🔹 Impecunious – having little or no money
🔹 Prosperous – successful and financially well-off
🔹 Economy – careful and efficient use of money/resources
🔹 Dearth – a serious lack or shortage
🔹 Meagre – very small or insufficient in amount
🔹 Abundant – existing in large quantities
🔹 Keep the wolf off the door – earn enough to avoid hunger or financial hardship
We also look at important vocabulary contrasts such as:
Munificent ↔ Mean
Prosperous ↔ Needy
Economy ↔ Extravagance
Dearth ↔ Abundance
Meagre ↔ Abundant
Impecunious ↔ Prosperous
The aim is not just to learn individual words, but to understand how they are connected through the larger idea of wealth, plenty, scarcity and lack.
This approach can help make difficult vocabulary easier to understand, remember and apply in competitive-exam questions.
