195(?) Bernie Armstrong - Green With Envy (Jeanne Baxter, vocal)

195(?) Bernie Armstrong, Russ Merritt, Bill Merius - Green With Envy (Jeanne Baxter, vocal) Another small label in my collection, I believe this one hails from Pennsylvania, from around 1950. It features Bernie Armstrong at the organ, Russ Merritt at the piano, and Bill Merius on trombone, with vocal refrain by Jeanna Baxter. I know that another similar record exists on the same label, GHP 231, though I can not seem to find online at the moment. Bernie Armstrong was a popular organist in Pennsylvania, being a feature of the KDKA radio station of Pittsburgh. He was broadcast over the station for a considerable time, with the earliest reference to him at the station that I saw being in 1931. He began his career at the Stanley Theater with Dick Powell in the late 1920s. In 1947 The Brookville American, of Brookville, PA, billed him as the musical director at KDKA, and said he was associated with the station since 1936, though other records suggest as early as 1931 as I previously stated. He was credited as the leader of the KDKA Orchestra at various times throughout the 1940s, and appear to have made at least a handful of other recordings, in addition to regular programs on KDKA. It appears he was active in music in some way into at least the late 1950s. He died sometime prior to February 11th, 1970. Russ Merritt was a pianist also associated with KDKA, with earliest mention being in 1931, and then continuing throughout the 1940s. He was active musically at least into the mid 1950s. Information on Bill Merius was not forthcoming, but if I discover any of anyone in the comments has any to add, I will update this description later. I can only assume he was also affiliated with KDKA. Jeanne Baxter--who had performed early on under her maiden name, Galbraith--another Pittsburgh native, was born in about 1915, and began performing with her sisters as a child. She was reportedly a staff vocalist with "every radio station in town," being affiliated with WCAE in the late 1930s and 1940s based on newspapers of the time. When she joined KDKA (possibly around 1950, though earlier as a guest star), Bernie Armstrong was already the music director at the station, the latest reference to her at the station that I have is in 1958. She had received offers to perform in New York, but turned them down, preferring to stay local. She performed the national anthem for the inauguration of two Pennsylvania governors, she was reportedly quite liked for her rendition of the tune. She balanced a home life, raising a son with her husband. She married Fred Baxter in 1935, and continued to sing full-time until the birth of her son in 1943, though she continued to perform for most of her life to a varying degree. In 1963, she got her own local television talk show "Jeanne's Merry-Go-Round." She was likely the most well-recorded of the lineup featured on this record, having recorded an album "Relax With Jeanne," which was released in 1964. Her last professional performance was in about 1994. She died on March 28th, 1997, at the age of 82. I would also like to thank him for help digitally cleaning up this audio, the shellac quality is not the greatest and so causes a lot of noise, the product you are hearing here sounds much better than the raw transfer.
