Our Lady of Africa Mbuya Parish Catholic Mass Today -Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary - Main Celebrant: Fr. Denis Olok MCCJ - This feast celebrates Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth. She shares in her Son’s kingship not by power, but by love, service, and intercession. -1st Reading: Ezekiel 43:1-7 The angel brought me to the gate that faces east. “Son of man, this is the place of my throne and the place for the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the people of Israel forever.” God’s glory returns to His temple. He desires to dwell with His people. -Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 85:9, 10, 11-12, 13-14 R/. The glory of the Lord will dwell in our land. “Kindness and truth shall meet; justice and peace shall kiss. -Gospel: Matthew 22:41-46 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them: “What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is he?”... “If David thus calls him Lord, how is he his son?” Jesus is both Son of David and Lord. In Him, the kingdom of God is revealed. - Mary is crowned Queen because she said “yes” perfectly to God. She points us always to her Son and reigns with Him in glory, praying for us. Short prayer: Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope... Pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. READINGS FOR THE MEMORIAL: -1st Reading: Isaiah 9:1-6 “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder... Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end.” A prophecy of the Messiah’s eternal kingdom — the kingdom Mary shares in as Queen Mother. -Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 113:1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 R/. Blessed be the name of the Lord forever. “From the rising of the sun to its setting the name of the LORD is to be praised.”2nd Reading: Acts 1:12-14 “All these with one accord devoted themselves to prayer, together with Mary the mother of Jesus...” Mary is present with the early Church, praying and interceding as our Queen and Mother. -Gospel: Luke 1:26-38 The Annunciation: “Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son... he will reign over the house of Jacob forever.” This is why we call her Queen — her Son’s kingdom has no end. -Thank you for the active participation and for always praying with us.
