How to Draft the Perfect Bodice Block | The Foundation of Dress Pattern Making! ✂️
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced pattern maker, this basic bodice pattern can become one of the most useful patterns in your pattern-making journey. Once you learn how to draft it correctly, you can use it as a foundation for many different designs and garments.
In this tutorial, I’ll guide you through the complete process of drafting the back bodice pattern, from the initial framework to the final details, using precise measurements and professional pattern-making techniques.
You’ll learn how to:
✂️ Set up the basic pattern framework
📏 Draft the Neckline, Bust Line, Waistline, and Hip Line
📐 Calculate the Armhole Depth and Armhole Width
📏 Calculate the Across Back measurement
✏️ Draft a clean and smooth Armhole Curve
📌 Establish the CB (Center Back) and SS (Side Seam) lines
✂️ Shape the side seam for different body shapes
📐 Draft the Back Dart Guideline and Back Waist Dart
✂️ Draft the Back Armhole Dart and transfer the dart intake to the shoulder line
The pattern in this lesson is drafted using the measurements of a size 42 dress form, which we covered in my previous measurement tutorial.
You can follow this tutorial using your own body measurements or use the size chart I previously shared on the channel.

✨ Practice Makes Progress
Don’t just watch this tutorial—draft the pattern yourself. It may seem challenging at first, but with practice and repetition, each step will become easier and more natural.
I’ll also be creating a Telegram group for channel members, including Supporters and VIP members, where you can share your patterns and get my guidance if you have questions or run into problems while drafting.
The front bodice pattern will be covered in the next lesson, so stay connected and continue this pattern-making journey with me.
Watch, practice, and keep drafting. Your skills grow with every pattern you make. ✂️📐
