Doctor Who- When America tried to revive British TV and failed..... | The Big Screen Leap

Hey everyone, welcome back to another episode of The Big Screen Leap! On today’s episode, we’re hopping into the TARDIS to discuss one of the longest running Science-Fiction shows in history! We’re looking at Doctor Who, and comparing it to its 1996 movie release that gave us the 8th Doctor. Doctor Who started in 1963 and ran for three years before its lead actor had to step away from the show due to health reasons. Instead of ending the show, they came up with the idea for their lead, known as the Doctor, to have the ability to Regenerate and change their face. So, this meant that anytime an actor or actress stepped away, they could keep the show going with a new lead playing the Doctor. In 1989 the show stopped running due to low ratings, but in 1996, an American TV Producer struck a deal with multiple companies to make a TV movie in order to get the show started back up. It didn’t work….. However, Doctor Who would restart back up in 2005 and ran until 2025 where it was put on hiatus until producers decide what they want to do. So today, we’re going to look at: -The show and how it successfully ran for such a long time, as well as honoring all the actors and actresses who played the Doctor. -The movie and why it didn’t work at brining the show back. -The similarities and differences. -And as always, was the leap from show to movie worth it?
