Chaweng Beach Road Walk — Koh Samui, Thailand (4K, No Commentary)

A 17-minute walk south along Chaweng Beach Road on Koh Samui's east coast, filmed just before 4pm on a Friday in September. From the Chaweng Yai Soi 4 intersection down to Central Samui, walking on the west side of the street. No music, no commentary — just natural sound, and there's a lot of it. What is Chaweng Beach Road like? Massage spas, tattoo shops, currency exchanges, pharmacies and souvenir stalls, more or less continuously for the length of it, with songthaews and motorbikes going past the whole way. This was shot in the afternoon during rainy season, so it's overcast and quieter than it gets after dark — and it's still loud. The most Samui thing in this video happens at 12:06, when four trucks advertising the next Muay Thai fights go past at once, at volume. That's not unusual. It happens several times a day. Chaweng vs Bophut vs Mae Nam — where should you stay on Koh Samui? Chaweng is the busiest part of the island and the loudest. The Beach Road runs the length of it and doesn't stop, bars, traffic, the advertising trucks, and beach clubs like Ark Bar that run music into the night. If you want nightlife within walking distance, this is where it is. Bophut, around Fisherman's Village, is the middle option. Restored shophouses, restaurants and a walking street market, busy in the evening but calm by comparison and finished by a reasonable hour. Mae Nam and the north coast beaches including Ban Tai and Bang Po, are the quiet end. Beach bars spread thinly, most places closed by 9 or 10, and the loudest thing on the beach is usually the water. We live on this side near Ban Tai Beach. The trade-off is convenience. Chaweng has the malls, the hospital, the airport nearby and everything open late. The north coast has none of that and you'll be on a motorbike or in a Grab to explore the island. But, there is enough to walk to from most resorts on Mae Nam Beach to keep someone occupied for a 5 night stay in Koh Samui. What's along this stretch?
