“Goonies never say die!” And neither do we. We’re Kim and Jason — fellow Goonies, lifelong Oregonians, and lovers of everything ‘80s. Join us as we dive headfirst into the Goonies 40th Anniversary Weekend in beautiful Astoria, Oregon — the town where it all began. This wasn’t just any fan event. This was a full-blown, truffle-shuffling, prom-dancing, treasure-hunting, heartwarming tribute to a movie that has stayed with us since childhood. As locals who have explored these filming locations for years, this weekend felt like walking into a time machine… and stepping straight onto the set of The Goonies. 💥 From the moment we arrived, the adventure was on. We toured every major filming location — the Goonies house, the old county jail, the waterfront, and more. If it was in the movie, we tracked it down. Some spots were familiar, others tucked away like buried treasure. We’ll take you along to see them all, with side-by-side movie comparisons and little-known history you might’ve missed. 💃🛼 But this weekend wasn’t just about places — it was about the people. We joined hundreds of other fans for an 80s-themed prom night, complete with retro outfits, big hair, and the kind of awkward dancing that would make Chunk proud. Then we laced up our skates for a roller disco party, blasted by the best music of the decade — and yes, we brought our Goonies spirit to the rink (and maybe a little chaos, too). 🎤 We also attended cast and crew panels featuring Corey Feldman, and others who brought this timeless classic to life. Hearing their stories, 40 years later, made the film feel even more real and even more magical. 🌊 We ended the weekend with a quiet sunset moment at the Peter Iredale shipwreck — a nod to One-Eyed Willy’s ship from the movie. With a cold coin in hand, we buried our own little piece of treasure in the sand, closing out the weekend in true Goonie style. 💡 Some fun facts along the way: • The jailhouse from the Fratelli escape scene is now part of the Oregon Film Museum — and you can literally walk into the cell where Jake sang opera and escaped with a fake suicide note. • The Goonies house was once off-limits to the public, but the new owner has not only reopened it to fans — they welcomed people in for tours during the 40th anniversary! • The famous map Mikey finds in the attic was inspired by real 17th-century pirate charts — and replicas were hidden around town all weekend long. • Astoria’s Ecola State Park, where the Lighthouse Lounge exterior scenes were filmed, is also a filming location for Kindergarten Cop and Twilight! • The line “Goonies never say die” was voted one of the greatest movie quotes of the 1980s and is still recited by fans around the world. 🗺️ Whether you're a lifelong fan who grew up watching The Goonies on VHS, or you're just discovering the magic of this movie now, this video is for you. Our weekend was filled with laughs, nostalgia, and a real sense of belonging. Everyone — from families introducing their kids to the film, to cosplayers dressed like Data and Sloth — came together to celebrate a shared love of one of the greatest adventure movies ever made. If you’ve ever dreamed of retracing the Goonies' steps, exploring the Oregon coast, or living an 80s-style adventure of your own… this video is the next best thing. So grab your treasure map. Dodge the booby traps. Cue the Cyndi Lauper. And remember: “Goonies never say die.” We said it a hundred times this weekend. And after this experience? We believe it even more.
