Goodwick Walk: Town Centre & Beach【4K】

Located in the county of Pembrokeshire, and around 15 miles north of Haverfordwest, is the town of Goodwick (or Wdig in Welsh). Geographically, Goodwick is situated on Pembrokeshire's northern coast, adjacent to Fishguard Bay. Its English name is believed to derive from Old Norse góðr vík, meaning 'good bay/cove', hinting at a Viking presence during the 10th century. On the 22nd February 1797 French forces landed at Carregwastad Point around two miles from Goodwick, and launched what would become the last invasion of mainland Britain. This campaign, known as The Battle of Fishguard, was short-lived, as just two days later the French surrendered at Goodwick Sands after allegedly having become drunk on stolen alcohol. In 1899 the railway arrived in Goodwick courtesy of the Great Western Railway, with the opening of a station originally called Goodwick, but renamed to Fishguard and Goodwick. This was followed by a second in 1906 named Fishguard Harbour. Both stations remain in use to this day as part of the Fishguard Branch of the West Wales Line. In 1906 a ferry service between Goodwick and Rosslare, Ireland began. This was concurrent with the opening of Fishguard Harbour railway station.
