Escudero reminded both the prosecution and defence to observe the impeachment court’s sub judice rule, warning that violations could lead to sanctions. The ruling came after prosecution counsel Amando Ligutan appeared before the court to explain a Facebook post that the defence claimed commented on the proceedings. Under Rule 18 of the impeachment court’s rules, a first violation could result in a public reprimand and stern admonition, while subsequent violations could carry a fine of up to ₱30,000 and, when warranted, restrictions on a lawyer’s participation in the proceedings.
