Weinberg Concertino for Violin and Strings - Aubree Oliverson / Kontrapunktus ensemble

Here's my interpretation of Weinberg’s Concertino for Violin and Strings, Op. 42, performed with the Kontrapunktus ensemble. This piece was written in 1948, right in the middle of the harsh, rule-bound Soviet music scene, when composers were expected to write in a style that was straightforward and easy to digest. To me, that makes the piece feel even more complex: it’s warm and lyrical on the surface, but there’s a lot of tension underneath, shaped by the fear and instability of the time.
