0:00 Ellie's intro 0:45 Dancing In The Dark This was the closer to a short but sweet 8-song opening set for ‪@thecastellows‬ on day 2 of the Luke Combs My Kind of Saturday Night tour at Slane Caste, Ireland - it sure felt like an EPIC performance IMHO. Ellie Balkcom's introduction to this Bruce Springsteen cover song tells you how much playing at this iconic venue means to them. She says she watched the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Slane Castle concert ten times! I know I was feeling the magic of U2 there at Slane Castle. At the Little Museum of Dublin the day before I learned about U2 playing there early on opening for Thin Lizzy. And of course U2 crafted The Unforgettable Fire there too. I was going to book a dinner in the castle so I could eat where Bono and the boys practiced Pride (In The Name Of Love). In the end I didn't do that because the dinner might have been when The Castellows were playing. Instead of eating at the castle and sitting in stands up on the hill like royalty, I managed to snag a front row centre standing spot at stage left (Powell's side). Two nights before I was on Ellie's side at Whelan's (cause I always alternate sides show to show). What a huge contrast in venues going from Whelan's where the ladies and gents played a 19 song headlining show Friday to a crowd of 450, then an 8 song opening set at Slane Castel to a crowd of 80,000 - 200ish times bigger!!! They slay it at any scale. The started to play a full band arrangement with Ellie on synth recently as a closer instead of Hurricane. Their instagram post have features Led Zep's Going To California (OH!!! imagine if they covered Battle of Evermore? Ellie on the high counter vocal. Man!!!), and Ellie's Spotify playlist had The Cars, so yeah a bit of a rocker. I think listening to different music genres is the way to go myself. At 1:40 Lily takes to the x-shaped catwalk and goes out in the crowd just like she, Ellie and Powell did during the show. I zoom out at 2:00 so you can see the crowd on the hill.
