Replacing the front door rubber gasket (also called a door boot seal or rubber sleeve) on an IFB front-load washing machine is a great way to fix water leaks or get rid of stubborn black mold.
While it looks intimidating because of how tightly it fits, you can absolutely do it yourself with some patience. Here is a step-by-step breakdown of how the process works.
Tools You'll Need
New IFB door rubber gasket (Ensure it precisely matches your model number, as sizes vary between 6kg, 7kg, and 8kg capacities)
Flat-head screwdriver or a spring expansion tool
Phillips-head (cross) screwdriver
Liquid soap or dishwash gel (to use as a lubricant)
Safety First & Preparation
1. Prerequisite
Unplug the washing machine from the power socket and turn off the water supply taps. Open the door fully to give yourself plenty of working room.
2 Remove the Outer Spring Ring
5 mins
Locate the thin metal wire clamp holding the rubber to the outer front panel. It usually has a visible tension spring at the bottom or near the door lock. Carefully insert a flat-head screwdriver under the spring, pry it outward, and peel the wire ring away from the machine.
3. Unpeel the Outer Rubber Layer
2 mins
Peel the outer edge of the rubber gasket off the metal lip of the front frame. Push the loose rubber inward into the washing machine drum to expose the inner workings.
4 Remove the Inner Spring Ring
10 mins
The rubber is held onto the inner tub by a second, larger internal wire spring. Depending on your IFB model, you can either reach inside the gap to locate this spring, or you may need to unscrew and remove the front door lock assembly to get better leverage. Use your screwdriver to carefully pry this inner spring clamp off the tub lip and pull it out.
5. Pull Out the Old Gasket
2 mins
Firmly grip the old rubber gasket and pull it away from the inner tub. Take note of its orientation—specifically where the drain holes at the bottom are pointing so you can align the new one identically. Clean any slime, lint, or debris from the exposed metal lips.
6 Fit the New Gasket
15 mins
Apply a small amount of liquid dish soap around the inner lip of the new gasket to help it slide on easily. Align the drain holes strictly at the bottom (6 o'clock position). Push the inner groove of the rubber firmly onto the lip of the inner tub, working your way all the way around until it is perfectly seated.
Reinstall the Clamps
10 mins
Fit the inner spring ring back over the gasket lip (this requires some stretching). Once secure, pull the outer edge of the rubber out and wrap it securely around the front panel lip. Finally, stretch the outer spring ring back into its groove to lock everything down.
