Johnny Dankworth And His Orchestra - Experiments With Mice (BSN Stereo Mix)

Sir John Phillip William Dankworth, better known as Johnny Dankworth, was a British bandleader who also played clarinet and saxophone. He composed a number of film soundtracks and was recognized as a leader in British jazz. “Experiments With Mice” is a jazz novelty that imitates various other bands playing variations on “Three Blind Mice,” or as the faux Stan Kenton on the record put it, “Theme For A Trio Of Sightless Rodents.” My favorite pun here is referring to the Sauter-Finnegan Orchestra as "a sort of Finnegan." Released in July, 1956 in the UK and in August here, it reached #7 in the UK, but only #61 on the Billboard pop chart here. Even so, it made top-10 in Boston, Milwaukee, Albany (NY), Sarasota (FL), New Haven (CT) and Bainbridge Georgia, in the southwest corner of that state.
