(Subtitles in various languages can be enabled) Wong Mau Hang Shan is located between Heung Yuen Wai and Lin Ma Hang in Northeast New Territories. The peak rises to about 243 meters, with a trigonometrical station on the northern side at 233 meters. From the peak, one can overlook Lin Ma Hang Village, Hung Fa Leng, Shenzhen Liantang, as well as the nearby Northeast New Territories Landfill. Its proximity to the landfill and the border crossing gives it a distinctive geographical and cultural background. The mountain is part of hiking routes and closely connected with Hakka villages, historic architecture, and environmental works. On the way up, hikers pass the Hakka watchtower heritage site of Heung Yuen Wai, one of the few remaining intact Hakka defensive structures in Hong Kong, valued for its military, cultural, and historical significance. Heung Yuen Wai Village has a history of about 360 years, with most villagers bearing the surname “Man” (萬). Because it was within the Frontier Closed Area, the village remained sealed off until restrictions were lifted in 2016. Some of the watchtowers date back to the Qing dynasty, while a cluster of village houses was built in 1928. On the other side of Huang Mau Hang Shan, at the exit point of the trail, hikers pass the Residence of Ip Ting-sz in Lin Ma Hang Village, Sha Tau Kok. This twostorey greenbrick mansion blends Chinese and Western styles, built around 1907 and declared a statutory monument in 2009. It stands as both a witness to revolutionary history and a cultural relic of the Hakka community. Ip Ting-sz, born in the late 1870s, was the eighthgeneration ancestor of the Ip clan in Lin Ma Hang. He once worked in Thailand as a tailor, contracting military uniforms and amassing wealth. In the late 19th century, he joined the Tongmenghui to support Sun Yat-sen. When Sun visited Thailand in 1908, Ip Ting-sz actively assisted, organizing Hakka participation. He took part in antiQing uprisings and the 1911 Revolution, later engaging in antiwarlord movements. In 1936, due to antiChinese policies in Thailand, he lost his businesses and returned to Hong Kong with his family. He passed away in 1943 during the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong.
