After a hiatus last year, this Sunday we again have the honor of hosting an Indigenous People’s Day Sunday at BLC. The sermon will be conversational, reflecting both on the texts and the personal experiences of Mindy Livingston, a white mom raising a Swinomish boy, and skʷalx̌ax̌alic̓əʔ (Kay Knott), Upper Skagit Elder. At the same time we will be closing out our sermon series on Genesis and Exodus, with the story of Moses asking that God travel with the Israelites, and that he see God’s very presence. There’s a lot to unpack in the intersection between these texts and Indigenous People’s Day. There are a number of participants in Sunday’s service: skʷalx̌ax̌alic̓əʔ (Kay) Knott (sermonizing and blessing) Simon Aleck, NLAKA’PAMUX First Nation Elder (offering final blessing) Jon Peachey (speaking Cree for welcoming greeting) qʷubačšəd (Kaden) Livingston (age 7, children’s message) Mindy Livingston (sermonizing) This worship service is a beautiful way to live into our Neighbor Acknowledgement that we say every Sunday. To listen, honor, respect, and amplify our neighbors. This service is unique in Skagit Valley, please consider inviting someone who would value this service. As always, we’ll enjoy meaningful music, prayer, and liturgy. It is good to be together, whether in person or online. Helpful links Connect form: https://www.burlingtonlutheran.org/co...
