Ain't No Man With Money: When you don’t have much to live for, you find what life worth living. I wrote this song after leaving the UK post-Brexit and spending over a year unemployed in the Netherlands. When I arrived I couldn’t get a house because I couldn’t get a Social Security number, because I couldn’t get a bank account ,because I didn’t have a house. The rat-race of “unqualified migrants”. I spent months trying to break into the system and lost what little savings I had. One year later the COVID lockdowns robbed me of all my savings AGAIN. Unable to survive as a musician/bartender in a country where live music and bars got shut down 4 times in 2 years. Nation-wide.So, I played livestream: shows on YouTube, Twitch and Instagram for donations just to afford groceries.And around that same time I released Ain’t No Man With Money; a hymn for anyone who’s broke, displaced, or starting over. It’s about finding happiness in the things that don’t cost a dime — a dance to a song you love, a smile, someone telling you they love you, or believing in you when the rest of the world doesn’t. Location: DB's Utrecht What doesn’t dB’s have? The place is a utopia for the arts, a haven for outsiders and a community like I don’t see in many other places in the Netherlands. I played my first proper show in the Netherlands in dB’s and it was a sold out album release. When I didn’t have many people backing my music - they did. Jeroen, you know who you are, you beauty. All the beautiful faces who work there make it special and beautiful and unique. I feel at home there. No one’s judging, no one disapproves of my eccentricity. It’s just a place I love to be.
