Perched above Keylong in Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul Valley, Shashur Gompa (Shashur Monastery) is a 17th-century monastery belonging to the Drukpa lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. In the local dialect, "Shashur" translates literally to "in the blue pines," a reference to the dense forest of blue pines surrounding the monastery complex—a distinct contrast to the otherwise rugged, barren slopes of the valley.
