Backyard Transformation: Replacing an Old Pool with a Custom Water Feature & Paver Patio

Watch this backyard transformation from start to finish! In this video, we tackle a backyard that originally had an old, deteriorating above-ground pool and deck that was rarely used. The homeowners wanted something they could actually enjoy, so we replaced it with a custom water feature and an outdoor living space. What we covered in this project build: Custom Water Feature: Designed with multiple shelves for increased water capacity, featuring a tall waterfall designed to project sound toward the viewing area and porch. We also installed a protective underlayment fabric to protect the rubber liner from punctures and an automatic filling system to combat evaporation. Curved Seat Wall & Cap: A detailed stone seat wall bordering the main patio area. We share a quick tip on adjusting and securing the top wall caps to ensure a perfect, continuous curve. Paver Patio Installation: A 15-foot-wide patio flush with the surrounding stonework. We discuss why we prefer pavers over concrete for handling freeze-and-thaw movement without cracking, as well as the unique designs they allow. Detailed Stone Cuts: A look at the custom 45-degree angle cuts and border work that give the patio corners and seat wall a highly polished, premium finish. Despite facing pouring rain and a literal backyard flood, the team powered through to bring this incredible outdoor oasis to life!
