LATE SUSAN NANJALA KWOBA REMEMBERED AS A PILLAR OF FAMILY, FAITH AND SERVICE
St Martin Sango Sub-Parish, Mbakalo – St Teresa of Avila Naitiri Parish
Family members, relatives, friends and Christians gathered at St Martin Sango Sub-Parish, Mbakalo, to celebrate the life of the late Susan Nanjala Kwoba, a woman remembered for her love, faith, discipline and service to both her family and the Church.
The late Susan was the wife of Mr Francis Kwoba, Moderator of St Martin Sango Sub-Parish and Deputy Moderator of the Catholic Men Association of Kenya (CMAK), Naitiri Parish. She also served as a Catholic Justice and Peace Department (CJPD) leader and former Catholic Women Association (CWA) Chairperson, giving her an active role in the Catholic community.
The Holy Mass was presided over by Rev. Fr Fred Ojilong, Parish Priest of Naitiri, while the homily was delivered by Fr Steven Wamalwa, Parish Priest of Holy Spirit Kibisi.
Reflecting on Matthew 25:14–30, the Parable of the Talents, Fr Wamalwa challenged Christians to recognise and make good use of what God has entrusted to them. The Gospel tells of servants who received five talents, two talents and one talent according to their abilities. The priest said the message reminds Christians that God knows the ability of every person and expects them to use and improve what they have been given. He challenged the congregation to consider what they are doing with their God-given opportunities, including their land, families, skills and other resources.
Fr Wamalwa urged Christians to thank God for what they have instead of always complaining. He reminded the faithful that everyone desires to go to heaven, but this requires maintaining a good relationship with God and living according to His teachings. The first reading from 1 Corinthians also reminded Christians not to compromise their faith by trying to share the table of the Lord and the table of the devil. The faithful were challenged to choose clearly the side they belong to and ensure that their Christian identity is reflected both inside and outside the Church.
The priest further connected the Gospel to value addition, encouraging Christians to improve whatever God has already given them. He challenged families to improve their homes and relationships and make productive use of their resources. “If God has given us land, what are we doing with it?” he asked, urging Christians to turn opportunities into something beneficial for their families and communities.
Paying tribute to his late wife, Francis Kwoba described Susan as his pillar and an enforcer of family discipline. He said he would continue upholding the values they shared together and preserve the beautiful legacy she had left behind. He added that Susan would always have a special place in his heart.
Kelvin Opara mourned his mother, remembering her kindness and the role she played in shaping his life. He described her as a source of love, support and guidance, saying she would remain in his heart forever. Hillary Wambulwa described his mother as a remarkable woman who gave her children dignity, faith, courage and discipline, while above all teaching them the fear of God.
The tributes reflected the life of a woman whose influence extended from her family to the wider Catholic community. Through her service as a CJPD leader and former CWA Chairperson, Susan contributed to Church activities and the formation of Christian families and communities.
Her death has left a gap in the family and Church, but her values of faith, discipline, love, courage, service and fear of God remain part of the legacy she leaves behind. The celebration of her life was therefore both a moment of mourning and thanksgiving—a reminder to the living to use their talents, serve others and build a legacy that will speak beyond their lifetime.
May the soul of the late Susan Nanjala Kwoba rest in eternal peace.
