2 Corinthians 2:1-4 (NIV) "So I made up my mind that I would not make another painful visit to you. For if I grieve you, who is left to make me glad but you whom I have grieved? I wrote as I did, so that when I came I would not be distressed by those who should have made me rejoice. I had confidence in all of you, that you would all share my joy. For I wrote you out of great distress and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to grieve you but to let you know the depth of my love for you." Sometimes love has to write the hard letter instead of showing up at the door, and then it has to sit in the silence and wonder if it was enough. Paul knew that weight. He stayed away not out of cowardice but out of care, letting words carry what his presence might have only made worse. If you have ever typed something true and terrifying and hit send anyway, you are not alone in that ache. That is what love looks like when it is willing to hurt a little to heal a lot. Raw. Tender. Heavy. Resolute. Aching. Perfect for sitting in the silence after a hard conversation, loving someone through distance and restraint, finding courage to tell the truth with tears. ---------------------------------------- LYRICS [Intro - bass and drums only, 2 bars, guitars detonate on the 3rd] [Verse 1] I held the page before I let it go Trembling hands and a pen pressed into bone Not silence, not retreat, not looking away This is love that costs something real to say Every word I wrote was wrung out of the deep Not cold authority, not a weapon cheap I chose to stay away because I knew Another wound right now would not be true You think restraint is weakness, think again The hardest chains to break are the ones within I will not come to you with grief on grief I will not storm the gate and call it peace [Pre-Chorus] This is not the silence of a coward's tongue This is love that burned all night until the morning come I am bound to your joy, I am bound to your name If you are not standing then I fall the same [Chorus] Ink and iron, this is what love costs Tears on the letter when the easy road is lost I did not back down, I chose a harder war Fighting for your freedom from the other shore Ink and iron, love is not a lie I wept through every word so you could rise This is the battle cry of everyone who stayed Love is not the silence, love is what we paid [Verse 2] You read the idols off this broken world Power dressed as love, control dressed as a word They come in loud, they come with force and pride They never count the cost, they never cry But I have seen what love looks like when it bleeds A candle burning down through sleepless nights on knees A forehead pressed against a door that will not move Ink bleeding through the page because the words were true I am not the enemy who struck your door I am the one outside who prayed and wept before So hear me now across this wide and quiet place I wrote your name in tears, not in disgrace [Pre-Chorus] This is not the silence of a coward's tongue This is love that burned all night until the morning come I am bound to your joy, I am bound to your name If you are not standing then I fall the same [Chorus] Ink and iron, this is what love costs Tears on the letter when the easy road is lost I did not back down, I chose a harder war Fighting for your freedom from the other shore Ink and iron, love is not a lie I wept through every word so you could rise This is the battle cry of everyone who stayed Love is not the silence, love is what we paid [Bridge - half-time breakdown, spoken word over low djent pulse] We live in a world that tells you love should feel easy That correction is cruelty and tears are a sign of defeat That is a lie The most dangerous thing a leader can do is love someone enough to write the hard letter and then wait and weep and not know if it landed right Paul did not storm the Corinthians He stayed back because his joy was tied to theirs That is not weakness, that is not retreat That is what it looks like when love refuses to burn the house down just to prove it has fire [Gang vocals, full band detonates] WE DID NOT COME TO GRIEVE YOU WE CAME TO SET YOU FREE WE DID NOT COME TO WOUND YOU ... ---------------------------------------- STAY CONNECTED Comment "INK AND IRON" if you have ever sent a message you poured your heart into and then sat waiting, not knowing if love came through Send this to someone who needed to hear a hard truth from you, so they know that the weight in your words was never anger but love.
