The Last Field - Nordic Ambient Music for the Fallen

The field at the end of a battle, and what comes down out of the sky for the man lying on it. Movements one and two of the journey - the last heartbeat, then the riders. It begins with a failing drum and one distant harp phrase too beautiful for the ground it is played over, and ends with a hand reaching down. The palette is the northern one: harp first, with lyre, rebec, tagelharpa, pan flute and bukkehorn around it, over a frame-drum pulse. Voices are wordless throughout - chant and call, no lyrics in any language. 0:00 The Shield Lowered at Last 2:50 Where the Banners Fell 5:21 A Warrior Looks at the Sky 7:53 The Heart Slows Its Drum 10:47 Songs from the Old Hearth 13:24 The First Faint Harp 16:13 Brothers Kneeling Near 19:05 The Field Grows Kind 21:43 What He Defended 24:28 The Sky Opens a Seam 27:15 His Name Said Three Times 29:49 The Last Beat, Then Light 32:56 Hoofbeats Made of Sky 36:04 Nine Riders Descending 39:33 She Reaches Down Her Hand 43:12 The Field Falls Away Below 46:28 Wings Over the Fjord 49:38 The Cold Stops Hurting 52:56 Riding the Grey Light Up 56:18 Her Song Between Worlds 59:45 The Shield Lowered at Last II 1:02:18 Where the Banners Fell II 1:04:27 A Warrior Looks at the Sky II 1:06:44 The Heart Slows Its Drum II 1:09:38 Songs from the Old Hearth II 1:11:27 The First Faint Harp II 1:13:44 Brothers Kneeling Near II 1:16:36 The Field Grows Kind II 1:18:53 What He Defended II 1:21:22 The Sky Opens a Seam II 1:23:48 His Name Said Three Times II 1:26:18 The Last Beat, Then Light II 1:28:59 Hoofbeats Made of Sky II 1:31:26 Nine Riders Descending II 1:34:07 She Reaches Down Her Hand II 1:37:02 The Field Falls Away Below II 1:40:04 Wings Over the Fjord II 1:43:02 The Cold Stops Hurting II 1:45:40 Riding the Grey Light Up II 1:48:54 Her Song Between Worlds II 1:52:07 The Moon Beneath Their Feet 1:55:10 Stars Close Enough to Touch 1:57:44 The Company of the Chosen 2:00:45 First Sight of the Bridge 2:03:37 The Shield Lowered at Last III 2:06:28 Where the Banners Fell III 2:08:47 A Warrior Looks at the Sky III 2:11:16 The Heart Slows Its Drum III 2:14:08 Songs from the Old Hearth III 2:16:28 The First Faint Harp III 2:19:05 Brothers Kneeling Near III 2:21:55 The Field Grows Kind III 2:24:25 What He Defended III 2:26:58 The Sky Opens a Seam III 2:29:28 His Name Said Three Times III 2:32:00 The Last Beat, Then Light III 2:34:58 Hoofbeats Made of Sky III 2:37:35 Nine Riders Descending III 2:40:44 She Reaches Down Her Hand III 2:43:53 The Field Falls Away Below III 2:46:57 Wings Over the Fjord III 2:50:08 The Cold Stops Hurting III 2:53:22 Riding the Grey Light Up III 2:56:41 Her Song Between Worlds III 3:00:00 The Moon Beneath Their Feet II 3:03:17 Stars Close Enough to Touch II 3:06:06 The Company of the Chosen II 3:09:14 First Sight of the Bridge II Part of ASKLAND, a Norse music world built one album at a time.
