Illustrator Linked vs Embedded Images: Which Is Better?

Ever wondered why your Adobe Illustrator file sizes are suddenly massive? Or why your client opened your file and got a "missing link" error? In this Adobe Illustrator tutorial, we break down the critical differences between Embedded Images vs Linked Images so you can master your design workflow. We look at the pros and cons of both methods, including: • How linked images keep file sizes small (e.g., 8.5MB vs 38MB!). • How to auto-update artwork using Photoshop. • The danger of losing your original files when sharing documents. • How to reverse-engineer an embedded file back into a link using the Links Panel. • Whether you're working with photographs, complex vector graphics, or brand logos, knowing when to link and when to embed will save you hours of frustration.
