Here’s something a little different from our regular videos. For this one, there’s no talking. Just the full process of moving a log with our tractor, log arch and dolly, getting it onto the sawmill, and milling it down into a beam. We’re first-time sawyers and timber framers, and we’re milling the lumber for a 12×16 timber-frame woodshed we’re trying to get built before winter sets in here on Mt. Hood and there's too much snow to work outside. I start by picking up the log, hauling it to the mill, rolling it into place, then cutting and rotating it until there’s a finished beam sitting on the mill. This is my first no-talk video, so I’m treating it as an experiment. I wanted to see what it was like to let the work, the sawmill, and the sounds of the woods tell the story. If you enjoy this kind of slower, process-focused video, let me know in the comments. I’d love to know if you’d like to see more like this. Episode 8 of our timber-frame woodshed build is coming next. That one gets into the joinery for the structure, including the posts, girts, knee braces, and some of the decisions and changes we had to make along the way. If you want to see whether three beginners can get this woodshed built before the snow, subscribe and follow the rest of the build.
