About Leslie: At 22, people thought I had it all: a Harvard diploma, a glamorous job at Seventeen magazine, a funky New York City apartment. Plus a handsome, funny, street-smart boyfriend who adored me. But behind this façade of success, I’d made a mistake shared by millions: I fell in love with a vicious abuser disguised as my one true love. At first, we seemed as perfect together as our fairytale wedding. Then came the fights I tried to ignore: Conor pushed me down the stairs of the house we bought together, poured coffee grinds over my hair as I dressed for a job interview, choked me during an argument, and threatened me with his three guns. Several times, he came close to making good on his promise to kill me. With each attack, I lost another piece of myself. I have three grown children with my second husband. My biggest victory over abuse is that although they know every word of my story, my children never lived a day with violence at home.
