"Carry Us Home" is a slow, pleading ballad about John Running Bear and Cleo Kiona, two people holding on while the tide pulls out, the old songs fade and the world moves on without asking their names.
Their story is fiction and the music is loosely based on the native American drum beat, but it echoes the real struggles of small communities everywhere, and especially the Kristang (Portuguese Malaysian) people of Melaka: a shoreline that is slipping away, a mother tongue (Linggu Mai) that fewer children speak, and a people who are still here.
🎧 Best with headphones, in a quiet room, with a few minutes to yourself.
🎶 Sound: cedar flute, heartbeat frame drum, seed rattle, warm guitar and a wistful violin echoing the Kristang branyo.
