Join Alastair and James as they set off from Blackpool/Harrogate with the attempt to reach the Scottish Isle of VALLAY on a 1000 mile trip on a PUCH MAXI and a HONDA CUB.
WHAT AN ADVENTURE!
Not just the 31mph top speed on a '79 Puch Maxi but with every hill the bikes struggled we had to take it in turns to help push the other one up either manually or with our foot on the back of the frame.
But then after a pleasant 52 mile trip through Skye in traditional Scottish weather (pissed it down) it was followed by a 2 hour Ferry to the isle of NORTH UIST where they only run two a day, one morning, one evening.
Arriving at LOCHMADDY in NORTH UIST we found out in the soggy weather that the only hostel on the entire island had closed down. .. luckily with a choice of 3 houses spread across an entire island, we felt spoilt for choice for the option of who we were going to wake up at an un-godly hour to ask for permission to camp on their land.
That's when we were greeted by the Mother of Christ herself! MARY! who happened to own a bunkhouse with TWO spare bunks ready for two soggy weary travellers to take shelter.
The next day after arriving at the coastline, the sea pulled a blinder and decided that it wanted to be in at this point. Que waiting about 3 hours for a lovely glimpse of golden sand.
We spoke with travellers and locals about our adventure and our plan who all told us it wouldn't be possible to get the bikes over. After almost 1000 miles of arse numbing saddle sores, we were within 2 miles of our pole, with the only thing stopping us being mother nature herself.
Then suddenly as the moon slurped up the tide with a paper straw we went FULL THROTTLE over the sandy shore of UIST over to the isle of VALLY and bagged our ONE AND ONLY CHECKPOINT.
The motorcycles were struggling, our boots were full of water but our spirits were high.
It took us 4 days and each night due to our work commitments only got around 3 hours kip just so we could make it all possible. on the way home we even drove through the entire night as the hostel we booked closed due to a Covid case.
This adventure was a nightmare and I bloody loved it!
Two wheels, One Pole and a fuck ton of inconvenience.
