A trip to Budapest IN 2016 with Sharon, Phil, Dee and Paul. A lovely few days exploring the city, visiting the Christmas markets and taking in some of Budapest’s famous sights. We spent time along the Danube, visited the Shoes on the Danube Bank memorial and took the historic funicular railway up Castle Hill. At the top we explored the Buda Castle District, with its beautiful old buildings and incredible views across the Danube and the city. This is also where you’ll find Fisherman’s Bastion and Matthias Church. The Shoes on the Danube is a particularly moving memorial, made up of 60 pairs of iron shoes along the riverbank, remembering the Jewish people who were murdered there during the Second World War.
