The results of the Scottish devolution referendum of 11 September 1997, as reported by the BBC. Kirsty Wark presents, with Brian Taylor (Scottish political editor) and Robin Oakley analysing the politics and Peter Snow analysing the numbers. Anne Mackenzie and Alan Mackay are stationed at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre where the results are being tallied. The studio panel is George Robertson (Secretary of State for Defence), Michael Ancram (Shadow Constitutional Affairs spokesman), Lord Steel of Aikwood (Liberal Democrats) and John Swinney (Scottish National Party). Steel is replaced by Jim Wallace (leader, Scottish Liberal Democrats) later. This is part 1, beginning at 11:20 PM on Thursday 11 September and running to 0:20 AM on Friday 12 September.
