Alberta's small towns didn't grow by chance — they were placed deliberately by the railways. From the CPR's arrival in 1882 to the Calgary and Edmonton Railway, the Northern Alberta Railways, and the Alberta Resources Railway, steel tracks shaped where communities formed, where grain elevators rose, and which towns survived.
