Staying with the beat studies, this one's interesting to say the least. I was playing around with this beat for a couple of days and I couldn't really find a good way to make it interesting for a while. Then I remembered this technique of recording chords to different tape tracks, so you're able to play chords with the mixer's faders. Once I went into that route a new world opened up. I'm also getting more comfortable with the effects setup as it is, so I'm able to switch moods way quicker. Add the tape speed knobs on the Portastudio's and I can switch between worlds. All in all I think it's an interesting experiment, but what do you think?

In my beat improvisation series I record programmed beats onto tape and run them through an old analog mixer so I can play 8 channels separately. The compositions are fully improvised and mirror my mood at the moment of recording.
This is my way of exploring my inner world and excavating whatever it is that wants to surface. It's incredibly exciting and relaxing at the same time; an exercise in letting go of perfectionism, focussing on curiosity and trusting my skills to take me somewhere interesting.
