🍅 Homemade Tomato Rasam Recipe | Rasam Rice | Comfort Food ❤️🔥 Craving something warm, comforting, flavourful and easy? Try this delicious homemade Tomato Rasam served with hot steaming rice! 🍚❤️ This rasam gets its amazing flavour from a freshly roasted homemade rasam powder made with chana dal, urad dal, coriander seeds, black pepper, cumin, methi seeds, dried red chillies and curry leaves. The freshly roasted spices give the rasam a wonderful aroma, warmth and depth of flavour. 🌶️✨ The combination of tangy tomatoes, tamarind, garlic, curry leaves, coriander and freshly ground spices makes this rasam spicy, tangy, aromatic and incredibly comforting. 🥣 Ingredients For the Dal: 2.5 glasses water 1 cup washed toor dal ½ tsp turmeric Salt to taste For Homemade Rasam Powder: 1 tsp ghee 1 tbsp chana dal 1 tbsp urad dal 2 tbsp sabut dhaniya (coriander seeds) 10–12 black peppercorns 1 tsp jeera (cumin) 1 tsp methi dana (fenugreek seeds) 4 dried red chillies 10–12 curry leaves For Rasam: 1 tbsp oil 1 tsp rai (mustard seeds) 10–15 curry leaves 2 dried red chillies 1 tbsp chopped garlic 3–4 medium tomatoes, chopped ¼ tsp turmeric 2 tbsp homemade rasam powder 3–4 tbsp tamarind water Lots of fresh chopped coriander Salt to taste ½ tsp red chilli powder 👩‍🍳 How to Make 1. Add 2.5 glasses of water to a pressure cooker. 2. Add 1 cup washed toor dal, ½ tsp turmeric and salt. 3. Mix everything, close the cooker and cook for 4 whistles. 4. Meanwhile, heat 1 tsp ghee in a pan. 5. Add chana dal, urad dal, coriander seeds, black peppercorns, cumin, methi seeds and dried red chillies. 6. Roast everything on a medium-low flame until aromatic. 7. Add curry leaves and roast them as well. 8. Let the roasted spices cool completely. 9. Blend everything into a fine/coarse powder. Your homemade rasam powder is ready! 🌶️ 10. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a kadhai. 11. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves and dried red chillies. 12. Once they start spluttering, add chopped garlic and cook until fragrant. 13. Add chopped tomatoes and mix well. 14. Cook until the tomatoes become soft and cooked through. 15. Add ¼ tsp turmeric and 2 tbsp homemade rasam powder. 16. Mix well and cook the masala so the spices release their flavour. 17. Once the tomatoes are cooked, add the boiled dal water. 18. Mix everything and let it simmer. 19. Add 3–4 tbsp tamarind water for that delicious tangy flavour. 20. Add plenty of freshly chopped coriander. 21. Add salt and ½ tsp red chilli powder. 22. Mix well and let the rasam simmer for a few more minutes. 23. Once the flavours come together and the rasam becomes beautifully aromatic, it’s ready to serve! ❤️🔥 🍚 How to Serve Serve this hot and steaming Tomato Rasam with freshly cooked rice.
