Something remarkable is happening in Jerusalem’s City of David, where archaeologists are finally uncovering more of the ancient Pool of Siloam—a site directly connected to some of the most famous passages in the Bible. In March 2026, the City of David announced that the ancient Siloam Pool was being fully excavated and prepared for public access, after more than a century of archaeological investigation. The pool already had extraordinary biblical significance: the Gospel of John describes Jesus sending a blind man to wash there, while the Hebrew Bible connects Jerusalem’s ancient water system with King Hezekiah. But here's where the story gets more complicated. Archaeologists have not confirmed a mysterious chamber or hidden biblical treasure directly beneath the Pool of Siloam. Meanwhile, Hezekiah’s Tunnel—an extraordinary underground water channel connecting the Gihon Spring to the Siloam area—has been dated by geoarchaeological research to roughly 700 BCE, consistent with the biblical account of Hezekiah’s waterworks, although its precise chronology remains debated.
