Criminals and thieves are ruling over your body, warns Kabir, urging us to look within. When we explore the body, we may have startling insights. Assumptions about our selves and the world may get reversed. Once the mind’s habitual and hazy clouds of thought part, the reality that comes to light may be the opposite of what we expected to see. It may be disturbing, or then again, it may be liberating. *** Find lyrics/translation of this song at http://ajabshahar.com/songs/details/3... In your body This striking song from the ulatbansi tradition of Kabir’s poetry, comes to life in Mooralala’s vivacious singing as he sets up a playful vibe with Parbat Jogi on the dholak. In June 2010, the Kabir Project team pitched camp in the desert heat of Kutch, Gujarat for an intense 5 days of day and night recordings with Mooralala and other folk and Sufi singers of Kutch, Gujarat. Mooralala belongs to a lineage of Meghwal singers, who migrated from Rajasthan to Kutch about 300 to 400 years ago. Now settled in the village of Khadeer in Kutch, Mooralala says he’s an 11th generation singer, and that his ‘santaar’ (tambura) must be at least 130 years old! When he first heard the sound of the tambura, he recalls that he was 8 years old, and he was so enchanted, he couldn’t sleep! Currently his 12-year-old daughter Nandini, learns from and sings with him. He moves with ease between nirguni bhajans, traditional folk songs and Sufiana kalaam.
