ସାବାସ ଗ୍ରାମବାସୀ...Villagers Protest Coal Transport | Environmental Protest in Chhendipada |Odia News Villagers of Kosala village in Chhendipada block of Angul district have been sitting on a continuous protest for the past 25 days, demanding environmental protection. The agitation has gained strong momentum, with the Drivers’ Federation extending its support, and residents from other villages of Chhendipada block joining the movement. The protest is against the transportation of coal from the Nayani coal mine through public roads. Since the 5th of this month, 84 trucks loaded with coal have been stationed, as villagers oppose coal movement without a dedicated transportation route. The demand for a separate coal transport road has existed even before the coal block was allotted. Although the government has already approved a plan to transport coal via a covered conveyor belt directly to Jarapada railway station by 2025, villagers allege that the plan is not being implemented on the ground. Instead, coal transportation through public village roads has raised serious concerns about air pollution, health hazards, and environmental damage, leading to widespread anger and unrest across the region.
