What if gravity isn't a force at all? For over 300 years, we treated gravity as an invisible pull between objects. Newton described it perfectly, but even he admitted he had no idea how it actually worked. Then Einstein revealed something extraordinary: gravity is not a force. It is the shape of time itself.
This video takes you on a complete journey through one of the most profound ideas in all of physics. Starting with Newton's law of universal gravitation and the mystery he could never solve, we trace Einstein's chain of reasoning from the equivalence principle to the stunning conclusion that mass curves spacetime, and that the curvature responsible for nearly everything you experience as gravity is not the curvature of space, but the curvature of time. You will learn how the time gradient near any mass bends worldlines and creates what we experience as falling, orbiting, and weight. You will see how GPS satellites, the Pound-Rebka experiment, the Hafele-Keating flying clocks, and NIST optical clocks have all confirmed that time runs slower closer to mass, exactly as Einstein predicted. And you will follow this same mechanism to its most extreme conclusions: the savage time gradients of neutron stars, where light visibly curves and time runs 20 to 30 percent slower, and the event horizons of black holes, where the roles of space and time exchange and every possible future points inward.
Gravity is not pulling you down right now. The ground is pushing you up, preventing you from following the path that the curvature of time has laid out for you.
