My parents gave me a ruthless ultimatum. They demanded I sell my entire catering business to pay off my brother in law ten million dollar debt. I refused. Days later they broke in and wrecked my entire warehouse with sledgehammers completely unaware that I had already done something that would lock them behind federal bars. My name is Sienna. I am thirty two years old and up until seven days ago I genuinely believed there was a limit to how much a family could bleed you dry to maintain their fake social status. Before I share exactly how I sent them all to federal prison let me know where you are watching from in the comments below. Hit that like button and subscribe if you have ever had to cut toxic family members out of your life for good.
I own Soul and Spice a high end catering company that services the most exclusive galas in Atlanta. I built it from a single food truck into a massive enterprise housed in a huge brick and mortar commercial warehouse downtown. Growing up in the Vance household the hierarchy was established early. My parents DeAndre and Yvonne had clawed their way into the upper middle class by franchising a string of dry cleaners. They were obsessed with the aesthetics of wealth. They craved country club memberships designer labels and luxury cars leased at extortionate interest rates just to keep up appearances in the wealthy neighborhood of Buckhead.
The crown jewel of their carefully curated image was my younger sister Aaliyah. Aaliyah was twenty nine perpetually unemployed yet somehow managed to live the lifestyle of a reality television star. The secret to her success was simple. She married Preston. Preston was a thirty four year old white man who called himself a real estate developer and investment guru. To my parents securing a white supposedly wealthy son in law was the ultimate status symbol. It did not matter that Preston and his business deals were always shrouded in vague buzzwords like synergy and angel capital. He drove a Maserati wore expensive watches and treated our family like an amusing charity project. My parents worshipped the ground he walked on. I on the other hand was the family workhorse. I was the one who smelled like smoked paprika and garlic while Aaliyah smelled like expensive perfume.
The nightmare began exactly seven days ago during what was supposed to be a standard Sunday family dinner at my parents sprawling heavily mortgaged estate. I arrived straight from overseeing a massive charity gala my feet aching in my work shoes. I parked my reliable delivery van between my fathers leased Mercedes and Preston and his shiny sports car. The contrast was a perfect summary of my place in this family. I grabbed a tray of artisanal appetizers I had prepared and pushed open the heavy mahogany front door.
