Why Do North Koreans Sound Like That?

A video like this was in my mind for a while, as I felt compelled to dispel some of the most easily refuted misconceptions about the DPRK, namely that they shout all the time. (Or worse, that there is only one newsreader). But this small indignation of mine turned into further research on the unique cadence used in state media and singing. As I explain, it's much more nuanced and complicated than you might expect.
